His birthday was celebrated by those in the know. However, he is scarcely remembered today. People are more likely to think of men like Sidney Poitier when it comes to early African American actors. But Robeson was essentially the first. It's a shame. It sounded toward the end that you were going toward a lament that he had been overshadowed by white actors as well as other prominent black actors, but I got confused b/c you had mentioned a "worldwide celebration" in the beginning of the article.
