Jarman's homoeroticism informs his sharp eye for composition and aesthetic balance. His films are a rich experience to watch--I'm thinking of Peter Greenaway and even, at least in his attention to the human figure as an object of beauty, Gus Van Sant (I'm thinking of the almost-Calvin Klein-ish students of "Elephant"). In other words, you're right that Tilda Swinton looks stunning; Jarman's world is often Romanticized, in an ecstatic kind of way.Paul J.
